Ensure your Italian passport or national ID card is valid for the duration of your stay.
Within 14 days of finding permanent accommodation, you must register your address at the local registration office (Einwohnermeldeamt or Bürgeramt). This process is known as "Anmeldung". Upon registration, you will receive a confirmation of registration (Anmeldebestätigung) and a tax identification number (Steueridentifikationsnummer).
Health insurance is mandatory in Germany. If you are employed, you will be enrolled in the public health insurance system (gesetzliche Krankenversicherung) through your employer. If you are not employed or prefer private insurance, you need to arrange for private health insurance coverage.
As an EU citizen, you are free to work without needing a work permit. Employers will require your tax identification number and proof of health insurance.
Opening a German bank account is recommended for salary payments and everyday transactions. You will need a valid ID, proof of address, and the Anmeldebestätigung to open an account.
While many Germans speak English, proficiency in German is highly beneficial for daily life, integration, and job opportunities.
